Amazónica LNG has formalised the appointment of China’s Jereh Group to build its regasification facility in Palermo, in Colombia’s Magdalena department. The project carries an investment of 180 million dollars and is expected to be ready in 2028.

Jereh appointed as principal EPC contractor

Amazónica LNG appointed Jereh Group through its Colombian subsidiary, Jereh Oil & Gas Colombia, as the project’s principal EPC contractor. EPC stands for engineering, procurement and construction: the arrangement places the delivery of these linked stages under a lead contractor rather than treating them as wholly separate packages. That structure can give the project owner a single principal counterparty for coordinating design completion, equipment and materials procurement, and construction. In this case, the announcement identifies Jereh as the contractor for execution of the regasification facility, but does not describe a public tender or disclose competing bids.

The project has reached Ready to Build status

The appointment comes alongside the completion of detailed engineering and the acquisition of all required permits. Amazónica LNG says those milestones formally establish the initiative’s technical Ready to Build status. In procurement terms, detailed engineering defines the technical basis on which equipment, construction activities and contractor responsibilities can be organised, while permits establish that the project has secured the required authorisations identified by the developer. The status does not mean the facility is already operating: the announced target is for the regasification plant to be ready in 2028.

Investment set at 180 million dollars

The initiative represents an investment of 180 million dollars. It concerns a regasification facility in the corregimiento of Palermo, in Magdalena, linking the project to Colombia’s LNG infrastructure. Regasification is the process by which liquefied natural gas is returned to a gaseous state for use in the gas system. The source does not provide a breakdown of the investment, the plant’s capacity, its financing arrangements or the value of Jereh’s contract. It does, however, present the investment, completed engineering and permits as part of the project’s move towards construction.

Corporate governance guided the selection

Amazónica LNG says Jereh was selected under strict corporate governance protocols. The company’s stated considerations included Jereh’s track record in more than 70 countries and its previous experience in Colombia with LNG technology, compression and virtual gas pipelines. Those points explain the basis given for the choice, but the announcement does not set out the evaluation criteria, the number of firms considered or the commercial terms agreed. Jereh’s appointment therefore marks a defined contracting decision for the project, while the available information leaves the wider selection process unspecified.

WHY IT MATTERS

The project illustrates how an EPC appointment can follow completed detailed engineering and permitting, giving a named lead contractor responsibility for coordinating the route from design through construction.
