Amazónica LNG has appointed China’s Jereh Group, through its Colombian subsidiary Jereh Oil & Gas Colombia, as principal contractor for its LNG regasification project. The private investment is estimated at US$180 million, with operations scheduled to begin in the first half of 2028.

A principal contractor takes the project into delivery

The contract gives Jereh responsibility for moving the project from completed detailed design into procurement and construction. Amazónica LNG says the arrangement will cover the formation of a local engineering team, the appointment of suppliers and the purchase of the main equipment and materials. The construction phase is expected to last between 18 and 21 months and will include engineering, fabrication, construction, preparation and support for start-up. In procurement terms, this places a broad package of delivery activities with one principal contractor, while leaving that contractor to organise the local engineering and supply chain needed to execute the works.

The project has reached its “Ready to Build” stage

Amazónica LNG says the appointment confirms the project’s “Ready to Build” status. That milestone follows the completion of 100% of detailed engineering and the receipt of the permits required to proceed with equipment acquisition and construction. The sequence matters because procurement of long-lead equipment can begin once the technical design and permissions needed for the build are in place. The company described the contract as evidence that the project had moved beyond an expectation and was technically viable and prepared to advance, according to Alberto Consuegra, its chief executive.

Maritime approval supports the planned LNG configuration

The company also reported that the Dirección General Marítima granted final authorisation for the project’s FSU vessel anchorage area. With this configuration, the infrastructure is expected to raise combined LNG storage capacity to 210,000 cubic metres and double delivery capacity to 200 million cubic feet per day. The project is designed to supply natural gas to the electricity sector, mainly thermal generation plants, while also serving self-generation projects and industrial, commercial and residential demand. These operating requirements provide the context for the equipment, marine arrangements and commissioning support included in the construction package.

This is another milestone confirming that Amazónica LNG has moved from an expectation to a technically viable project prepared to advance towards construction.

WHY IT MATTERS

A principal-contractor model can combine engineering coordination, supplier engagement, equipment purchasing, construction and start-up support within one delivery package. Here, the contract follows completed detailed engineering and required permits, giving the project a defined route from design into procurement and construction.
