Construction has advanced on lot 1D Joseni–Ditrău of Romania’s A8 motorway, with the contractor working across earthworks, structures, wildlife crossings and intelligent transport infrastructure. The project is being delivered by an association of three companies, led by Danlin XXL.

Works are spread across the 14.4-kilometre route

The National Road Investment Company, known as CNIR, said work continued at several points during the first ten days of October. The reported mobilisation exceeds 300 people, supported by 245 machines and pieces of equipment. Activities include ground consolidation, embankments, bridges, passages and the Joseni road interchange. The route will also include a temporary connection allowing the lot to operate independently while the link to the following 2A Ditrău–Grințieș lot is developed. The update describes physical progress rather than a change to the contract or its delivery timetable.

Structures, drainage and ITS work are under way

The reported work covers both enabling construction and major structures. Contractors are levelling and profiling the foundation ground, improving it with locally sourced material stabilised with hydraulic binder, and placing suitable fill on both carriageways. Prefabricated culvert elements are being installed, waterproofed, formed and protected with concrete. Piling or foundation work is under way at bridges over the Alb, Pietrosul and Mureș waterways, as well as at a canal crossing. At the Joseni wildlife passage, crews are working on the abutments and return wall. Posts for the intelligent transport system are also being cast, with samples and tests taken for concrete works.

The contract is being delivered by an association

The named contractor is the association of DANLIN XXL SRL, as leader, with INTERTRANSCOM IMPEX SRL and GROMA HOLD. In public construction procurement, an association allows several firms to bid and perform a contract together under a defined lead member, combining their delivery capacity while presenting a coordinated contracting party to the authority. The source identifies the members and leader but does not set out their internal allocation of work or the procurement route used to select them. The stated delivery period is 34 months: 10 months for design and 24 months for construction.

CNIR describes the A8 Târgu Mureș–Târgu Neamț motorway as strategic infrastructure for connecting Moldova with Transylvania and the European transport network. The Joseni–Ditrău lot is presented as the first A8 mountain lot under construction and the first motorway lot being built in Harghita county. Its planned features include 21 passages and viaducts, of which three are ecoducts intended to preserve animal movement, plus a road interchange and temporary discharge. The project is also expected by CNIR to improve access for local communities, business and tourism.

WHY IT MATTERS

The project illustrates how a major public works contract can combine conventional highway construction with ecological crossings and intelligent transport infrastructure. It also shows the role of a multi-company association: the lead firm and its partners deliver one lot together, while the authority tracks progress against a single project scope and timetable.
