Overview of the New Tariff Regulations
Effective from 5 September 2026, new regulations governing electricity tariff formation have been introduced by the Ministry of Energy. These rules are designed to benefit both businesses and households by reducing the burden of energy costs. According to the Ministry, the changes are expected to enable companies to save approximately 500 million PLN annually. The regulations aim to enhance transparency in electricity billing and provide a clearer understanding of costs associated with energy consumption.
Impact on Industrial Consumers
The new tariff structure particularly targets large industrial consumers, defined as those using at least 50 GWh of electricity annually. These businesses will see a reduction in network charges, potentially benefiting around 143 industrial customers. The Ministry anticipates that this adjustment could yield savings of about 440 million PLN each year. Additionally, a quality charge exemption is planned for certain industrial users from 2027 to 2031, which is expected to provide further financial relief.
Encouraging Energy Efficiency and Flexibility
In a bid to promote energy efficiency, the new regulations will introduce time zones for quality charges, encouraging consumers to adjust their energy usage according to availability. This approach aims to incentivise investments in energy storage solutions and flexible production processes. By signalling the most cost-effective hours for energy consumption, the Ministry hopes to optimise the use of renewable energy sources and enhance overall system efficiency.
Simplifying Billing for Households
The new regulations also focus on simplifying electricity bills for households, making it easier for consumers to compare regulated tariffs with market offers. With the installation of remote reading meters, consumers will be informed about the option to settle accounts based on actual consumption rather than estimates. This change is expected to lead to more predictable electricity bills over the year, enabling consumers to make informed decisions about their energy usage.
